A Simple Daily Prayer Rule

Morning Prayers

In the name + of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of Grace, the Lord is with thee (Lk. 1:28). Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus (Lk. 1:42). Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary: Suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried: He descended into hell: The third day he rose again from the dead: He ascended into heaven and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty: From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead; I believe in the Holy Ghost: the Holy Catholic Church: the Communion of Saints: the Forgiveness of sins: the Resurrection of the body: and + the Life everlasting. Amen.

I thank thee, Heavenly Father, for the rest of the past night and the gift of a new day. Grant that I may so live today in thy presence and service, that at evening I may truly praise thy holy Name; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Have mercy, O God, upon all people. Bless thy holy Church, thy bishops and clergy, and all faithful people on earth and in paradise. Bless my family, friends, and neighbors, especially . . . . ; have compassion upon those who are sick, in trouble, or danger, especially . . . . ; and may the souls + of the departed [. . . .], through thy mercy, rest in peace. Amen.

I commit myself to God for today. By the help of his grace, I will endeavor to keep his commandments, and to follow faithfully in the way of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O holy guardian angel, to whose care God in his mercy has committed me, stand by me now and at my last hour; protect me against all the powers of darkness, defend me from all enemies, and conduct my soul to paradise. Amen.

Hymn
Now that daylight fills the sky
We lift our hearts to God on high,
That he in all we do or say
May keep us free from sin today.

Father, fill our hearts with love,
That we may seek the things above;
Extinguish thou each sinful fire,
And banish every wrong desire.

Father, that we ask be done,
Through Jesus Christ thine only Son,
Who with the Holy Ghost and thee
Doth live and reign eternally.   Amen.

+ The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost be with us all evermore. Amen.

Midday Prayers

In the name + of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Turn us again, O Lord God of Hosts;
Show the light of thy countenance, and we shall be whole.
O Christ, arise and help us,
And deliver us for thy Name's sake.
O Lord hear our prayer,
And let our cry come unto thee.

O CHRIST our God, who at this hour stretched out thy loving arms upon the Cross that all men might be gathered unto thee, help us and save us who cry out unto thee; who livest and reignest with God the Father, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

(If possible, pray the Angelus below)

Evening Prayers

In the name + of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Amen.

I confess to God Almighty and to all the Saints that I have sinned exceedingly in thought, word, deed, and omission, by my own great fault. (Here confess specific sins). For these and all other sins which I cannot now recall, I am truly sorry, and I humbly repent. I beg all the Saints to pray for me unto the Lord our God.

God Almighty, have mercy upon me, + forgive me all my sins, deliver me from all evil, confirm and strengthen me in all goodness, and bring me to everlasting life. For Jesus Christ's sake, who died for me and for all mankind, and who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen.

Lord + now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace *
    according to thy word.
For mine eyes have seen *
    thy salvation.
Which thou hast prepared *
before the face of all people:
To be a light to lighten the Gentiles, *
and to be the glory of thy people Israel.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, *
    and to the Holy Ghost,
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, *
    world without end. Amen.

Lighten our darkness, we beseech thee O Lord: and by thy great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night; for the love of thy only Son our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Preserve us O Lord while waking, and guard us while sleeping: that awake we may be with Christ, and asleep we may rest in peace.

+ The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost be with us all evermore. Amen.
+ May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

When lying down to sleep:

+ Into thy hands, O Lord, I commend my soul and body. Bless me, keep me, and grant me eternal life. Amen.

The Angelus
(Memorial of the Incarnation)

The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary, *
And she conceived by the Holy Ghost.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. *
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen

Behold the handmaid of the Lord. *
Be it done unto me according to thy word.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. *
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen

And the Word was made flesh, *
And dwelt among us.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. *
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen

Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God, *
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Pour forth, we beseech thee, O Lord, thy grace into our hearts, that we to whom the incarnation of thy Son was made known by the message of an angel, may by his Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of his Resurrection. Through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
